History

    

Infocom was founded in 1991 by two telecom companies - OJSC Ukrtelekom (Ukrainian telecom provider) and Controlware, Germany.


Since then Infocom has been the leader on the telecom services market in Ukraine.

 1991
Foundation of Infocom JV. The first Ukrainian data transmission network - UkrPack - starts developing.
Data transmission network via X.25 protocol was put into operation.
The network gained an access to the international data networks connected through X.75 protocol. Our first partners were Datex-P (Germany) and Sprint (USA), thanks to them Ukraine obtained an access to more than 120 data transmission networks.
 
 1992
Infocom received License No.1 from the Ministry of Communications of Ukraine.
The same year such banking institutions as First Ukrainian International Bank and the World Bank became our first clients. UkrPack network was registered in the international directories under the DNIC2550 code. This event became as important for the telecom sphere of the country as appearance of the international dialling code of Ukraine - 380.
 
 1993
Infocom provides access to the international bank telecommunication network S.W.I.F.T., moreover, the list of our clients was enriched by Eksimbank (29 branches, corporate connection), and "Ukraina" Bank. The Parliament of Ukraine (Verhovna Rada) also became a user of UkrPack network, as well as a number of large enterprises with multidivisional structure.
 
 1994
The second queue of implementation of the national datacom network UkrPack with network monitoring expanded.
"Ukrmail"  message processing system was brought into service basing upon regulations of X.400 series Ukrmail+Mail+Telex+Fax.
International network traffic with more than 90 countries of the world was then available. First users on 64 Kbps speed appeared.
 
 1995
Banks located in Ukraine are provided with the access to the Clearing House of National Bank of Ukraine, main establishments in Kiev and foreign banks.
Modernization of UkrPack communication nodes: S8000 equipment is installed in Poltava, Kharkov, Cherkassy, S9000 equipment is installed in Lvov.
The network is built in the regions (regional centers).
 
 1996
The company started providing Internet services.
Building of UkrPack network was completed (back-up alternative channels from regional network nodes). Start-up of network expansion, implementation of Frame Relay protocol.
Modernization of UkrPack network nodes: S8000 equipment is installed in Zhitomir, Lutsk, Nikolaev, Simferopol, Sumy, Kherson.
 

 

1997
UkrPack consists of 109 network nodes.
Internet is delivered to the UkrPack regional nodes through Frame Relay.
Updating of UkrPack nodes: S8000 equipment is installed in Vinnitsa, Ivano-Frankovsk, Rovno, Ternopol, Uzhgorod, Chernigov, Chernovtsy, S9000 hardware is installed in Odessa.
 
 1998
UkrPack network covers more than 110 large Ukrainian cities.
Digital channels with 2Mbps on backbones.
Voice via Frame Relay, IP-telephony.
Modernization of UkrPack nodes: S8000 equipment is installed in Zaporozhie, Sevastopol. Digital channels are put into operation in Dnepropetrovsk, Zhitomir, Lutsk, Lvov, Poltava, Rovno, Sumy, Ternopol, Kharkov, Khmelnitskiy, Cherkassy, Chernigov.
 
 1999
The network updating and transition to Frame Relay technology are accomplished. Through this protocol it is effected the interaction between 230 UkrPack nodes on the territory of Ukraine, and the number of nodes is increasing. A major event was setting up the interaction with networks of international providers Infonet and Global One.
UkrPack network covers 120 large cities of Ukraine.
 
 2000
Implementation of "Infocom on-line" project. Its main idea is to combine advantages of ground-based fiber optic channels of the existing UkrPack network and high-speed satellite links.
UkrPack consists of more than 160 communication nodes and continues to expand into regions.
Creation and commissioning of the biggest commercial Data Storage Center - INFOCOM DATA CENTER. The main purpose of the project is to provide clients with all services concerning hosting of Internet services, business services and e-commerce solutions.
Development of integrated services in the regions.
Updating of UkrPack nodes: Passport equipment is installed.
 
 2001
UkrPack network comes to districts. Nodes there enable customers to get access to the majority of UkrPack services: X.25, Frame Relay, VPN, Internet access.
 
 2002
Infocom offers effective solutions in building the corporate VPN networks.
The company implements the QoS technology (Quality of Service) and effects SLA (Service Level Agreement).
 
 2003
Dynamic development of UkrPack network into the depth of the country, coming up to the district level to meet the demand of informatization in the public sector and business. In addition to regional centers, at the moment UkrPack has got already nodes in the majority of the district centers. The regional networks are created so as to ensure reliable connection between districts and a regional center, wherefrom there are at least two communication channels with Kiev and the other regions.
 
 2004
 
According to the plan coordinated with "Ukrtelecom ", network "UkrPack" has covered all regional centres of Ukraine.
 
Thus, the network of Infocom Company - "UkrPack" now has 554 switch nodes of batch communications located in the regional and regional centers of Ukraine.
 
  2005
Infocom”s national multi service data transmission network - UkrPack now consists of 619 switch nodes of batch communications (95 - are located in regional and 524 - in the regional centres of Ukraine).
During 2005, Infocom JV realized a number of telecommunication projects:
 Transition to MPLS technology of national network - UkrPack at the main and international levels.
Corporate networks of banks AVAL, VABANK, Company "Nemiroff" - are modernized. Transition to high-speed channels.
 Works on construction on principles of outsourcing of a corporate network of insurance company "Etalon ", 30 spots are developed.
 Signed Contract with the Pension Fund of Ukraine (Construction of a corporate telephone system on VoIP technology)
 
  2006
 
Infocom”s national multi service data transmission network - UkrPack consists of 667 switch nodes of batch communications (121 - are located in regional and 546 - in the regional centres of Ukraine).
 
  2007
Further perfection of UkrPack structure with use of high-speed channels at all levels, up to 155 Mb at the main level, up to 2Мb on zone.
Infocom”s national multi service data transmission network - UkrPack consists of 750 switch nodes of batch communications (188 - are located in regional and 562 - in the regional centres of Ukraine).
 
In 2007 year Infocom realized the row of telecommunication projects, among which it is the followings.
 A carrying capacity is extended of 85% of channels (a level district-area) of telecommunications network corporate of AVAL bank on all territory of Ukraine.
 
Incorporated in the unique telecommunications network on technology of MPLS:
  - 50 branches of Industrialbank;
  - 15 supermarkets «Velyka Kishenya»;
  - 17 branches of VTB Bank;
  -   9 branches of Ukrgazprombank
 
   Infocom JV. Results 2008. Plans 2009.
The total consolidated revenue of company in 2008 made 163,2 million UAH (with VAT). An income before taxation is 19,4 million UAH.
 
Infocom’s own national multiservice data network presently consists of 853 network nodes (248 - located in regional centres and 605 – in smaller cities of Ukraine). In January 2008, the network included 750 network nodes (188 - in regional centres and 562 – in other cities of Ukraine).
 
On results of 2008, Infocom JV performed a number of works in the field of providing telecommunication services.
A number of corporate networks of the largest banks in Ukraine, to whom Infocom currently provides VPN services, had been significantly expanded during this period.
More than 300 new sites had been connected.
 
In 2008, a modernization of the central international node of the MPLS network of Infocom had been accomplished in Kiev, and the development of the international node in Lviv and regional nodes of the network.
 
In 2008, a major step was taken toward a migration to 1 Gbit/s capacity on each of the backbone links connecting Kiev with all regional centres. Also in 2008 Infocom embarked upon a process of migrating to 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet circuits on the regional level.
 
For 2009, modernization is planned:
 
- For the Infocom’s regional access network by a way of migrating of the majority of the regional links to the 10/100 Ethernet
- For the equipment of the core nodes in order to provide 10 Gbit/s capabilities on the inter-node links.
- For the equipment of the regional access nodes in line with the process of a gradual transition to Ethernet as a standard way of providing the local loop for accessing the network.
 
At the same time, traditional services, including those based on the Frame Relay technology, will be supported as long as the users need it.
 
For the year 2009, it is planned to introduce a new type of service, called “managed services” which would allow the users to outsource the burden of their network maintenance to a service provider.
For this purpose, an entirely new set of network control and monitoring systems will be introduced at the Network Control Centre.
Infocom JV has obtained a national license for WiMAX technology in March 2009, and plans to begin using this facility on all the territory of Ukraine.
 
A company also intends in 2009 to be more active in the market of system integration and plans to take part in designing and installing the systems of data communication, IP-telephony and video surveillance.
